The Journal — Your Only Unbiased Employee
What it records
For every trade: thesis (why, in one sentence), the setup category, entry/stop/target with the structural reasons, size and % risk, confidence %, screenshot or key levels, and — after exit — the result in R and the grade: "followed plan Y/N." The follow-the-plan flag matters more than P&L: a profitable rule-break is a future loss wearing a costume.
What it reveals
After 30+ trades the journal answers questions memory cannot: which setup category actually carries your expectancy (most traders find 1–2 of their 5 setups make all the money — and the others bleed); whether your losses are thesis-failures (fine) or discipline-failures (fixable); whether your confidence is calibrated (day 36). Memory says "I'm a good trader"; the journal says what is true.
The review cadence
Weekly: scan for discipline breaks (any Y/N = no). Monthly: expectancy by setup category, calibration score. Quarterly: is the overall system's edge intact, and which module of this course does your data say to re-study? The journal turns the market into a feedback loop instead of a slot machine.
